STORY: Legal ethics violated

| May 15, 2011 10:00 PM

We are writing in response to your May 7 article titled, "Canyon County releases ex-prosecutor's bank records." The material released to the public in reference to ongoing legal proceedings represents a serious breach of legal ethics.

The content reflects character assassination by unsubstantiated allegations. When you pick up a wire service article and publish it without scrutiny, you contribute to the slander contained therein.

You and your readership should be aware that the court has already ruled that John Bujak's bank records are a private matter and that his contract with the city of Nampa was in fact, in keeping with the legal precedent first established in Kootenai County, that allows prosecuting attorneys to earn money outside their official office.

I hope that you have the integrity to publish and to make available in its entirety the content of the Notice of Tort Claim filed against Canyon County alleging defamation and violation of RICO racketeering statutes. Again, I trust that you will provide a balanced account of the real story that exists here, one that will demonstrate how public officials in conjunction with the local press can orchestrate a libelous attack against an individual, who is tried in public on the basis of charges that have no bearing in fact.
