DORSEY: An unfond farewell
As a resident of the East Side Highway District and someone who has witnessed Chairman Jimmie Dorsey's leadership of the highway district, I think a thank you is in order.
Thank you for not having the foresight to establish a reserve fund to take advantage of federal highway funding when the economy is down. Maybe the next commissioners will have this foresight.
Thank you for paying for the three LID construction costs out of the Burma Road fund prior to obtaining LID funding. Spending money you don't have showed us you learned nothing from the banking crisis.
Thank you for saying in a recent Coeur d'Alene Press interview that if the LIDs are not approved, the district will need to cut staff and services. Once again, demonstrating the budgetary pickle you put the district in, or was it meant to intimidate?
Thank you for the two proposed LIDs you initiated in your district. Increasing my family's total property taxes by more than 300 percent to pay for "our share" in a down economy speaks volumes about your concern for the residents you are supposed to represent. Thanks for giving O'Gara road residents a reason to meet each other and bond together as a community to oppose your folly.
When general bond elections fail, should commissioners ignore the will of the people using a LID to pay for roads? Are you ready to pay "your fair share"? This election, choose your representation wisely. An LID may be in your future.
