SOFTBALL

RATHDRUM - Ashley Metcalf struck out seven as the Lakeland Hawks defeated the Sandpoint Bulldogs 8-0 in a loser-out game of the 4A Region 1 tournament on Thursday.

"We played really well as a team today," Lakeland coach Colleen Bevacqua said. "We were able to start stringing some hits together, hit the ball hard and played some good, tight defense."

Bekah Kastning had three hits, including a solo home run in the sixth inning for Lakeland (9-9), which hosts Moscow on Saturday at noon in the regional championship game.
