East side highway candidate signs gone
Lorna Casey-Kaiser had a disappointing surprise on Thursday.
A few of her campaign signs for East Side Highway District commissioner were missing, she noticed.
A neighbor helping with her campaign volunteered to check if any more were gone.
They were.
In total, she said, all 24 signs were missing that she had put up between Harrison and Cataldo.
"It took us four or five hours in one day (to set those up). A whole tank of gas," Casey-Kaiser, running for the district's zone 1 commissioner seat. "Every single one is gone from there."
Casey-Kaiser filed a report with the Sheriff's Department on Thursday afternoon for the stolen signs, which cost about $5.50 each, she said.
Too late to put them up now before the May 17 elections, she said.
"I've had people ask me, like, 'Wow, do you still want to do this if people are like this?'" she said. "And I said, 'You know, that's exactly why I'm running. Because there are people like this.'"
She had relied on those signs, she added, to introduce drivers to her campaign website, lck2011.com
"I feel like they've not only stolen from me, but they've stolen from the voters an opportunity to see another candidate," she said.
The Coeur d'Alene candidate isn't beat yet, though.
She and her supporters plan to hold signs themselves in the Wolf Lodge area over the next few days, she said.
"I'll be out there holding a sign tomorrow," she said. "You try to take this one."
