CDA: Candidates favor AP classes

| May 11, 2011 10:00 PM

An issue concerning the Coeur d'Alene School Board election must be clarified immediately. Campaign workers for Tom Hamilton's opponent are telling folks that Tom will do away with Honors and AP programs. Tom Hamilton strongly supports the high school AP and successful honors classes. In Tom's words, "AP is a long standing successful program and an important part of the curriculum which must be funded."

I have spoken directly with both of the conservative candidates for school board - Tom Hamilton (Zone 2) and Terri Seymour (Zone 3), and both have assured me of their solid support of the AP and successful honors class programs. They also believe it is important to ensure that all students receive a quality education so that they have the opportunity to continue college without the need to take remedial English and math courses at community college.

We can only speculate on why Tom's incumbent opponent would distort his position. Ultimately, the candidates are responsible for their misguided campaigners. It is my hope that this letter will set the record straight, and that his opponent will take measures to stop the misinformation.

Tom Hamilton and Terri Seymour support our successful AP and honors classes that are proven to be successful.
