LAKES: Duo's motives are pure

Jerry Tefft's letter regarding the upcoming Lakes Highway District election deserves a response. I do not know the reasons why so many folks are running against the incumbents. It is every citizen's right to do so and I wish more good candidates with knowledge, ethics, and energy would run for local offices. Our community would be a better place.

I worked with Corky Witherwax and Dan Malcolm for many years as a co-worker and later as "boss." Both have the highest integrity and ethics. Both are retired after long and productive careers in construction. Both are and always have been community minded, serving on many committees and community boards.

That they both wish to continue serving during their retirement comes as no surprise to those who know them. They will do an excellent job representing the taxpayers of Lakes.

Mr. Tefft, your shameful effort to color them as somehow beholden to Interstate is dishonest. Not everyone operates with the same low ethics you seem to expect. Many folks like Corky and Dan really want to serve and improve our community with no strings attached or hidden agendas.
