Wounded mallard seen but not caught
With a blow dart stuck in its neck, a mallard duck was roving around downtown Coeur d’Alene this morning.
Idaho Fish and Game workers told The Press they have been chasing the mallard for the past few days, most recently near the beach at North Idaho College.
The duck and its mate spent some time this morning in the Coeur d’Alene Press parking lot.
Fish and Game workers tried to net the mallard, and cage it, so they could take it somewhere to have the dart removed, but the mallard flew away.
Again.
But Fish and Game will keep trying.
Anyone who sees the duck can call the Coeur d'Alene Fish and Game office, 769-1414, and someone will come out.
Warning for the brave and compassionate: The dart likely has barbs on it, so pulling it out may be more difficult than it looks.
