Georgia Cook Newell, 86

Georgia Cook Newell, 86, lifelong resident of Coeur d'Alene, passed away May 3, 2011, at The Four Seasons Assisted Living after a short illness. She was born March 28, 1925, at home to John Lester and Ruth Cook.

She married Edwin Newell in Chelan, Wash., on Jan. 9, 1942. They moved back to Coeur d'Alene and later bought 80 acres on Blue Creek. They lived there for 30 years. While there she learned how to run a tractor, pile brush, chop limbs and milk cows. Ed passed away in 2007 after nearly 68 years of marriage.

She is survived by her daughter, Della and husband David of Coeur d'Alene; and son Pat and wife Ellen of Green River, Wyo.; as well as five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers, Dale and Kenny and sisters, Norma, Ruthie, Jewell, Kay and Kathy. She will be greatly missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father and three brothers.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 3825 N. Fruitland Lane, Coeur d'Alene.
