Tires, electronics stolen from Jeep
COEUR d'ALENE -
Don't leave your car alone overnight near Seale Avenue and Cedarblom Street.
You won't like what you find in the morning.
A Hayden man learned that lesson when his 1993 Jeep Cherokee broke down about 8 p.m. Sunday at Seale and Cedarblom. He left the vehicle in a private, vacant lot, and returned to get it about 8:40 a.m. Sunday morning.
Too late.
He found that someone had stolen all four rims and tires worth $1,800, and had also broken a rear passenger window. The Jeep's rear axle was still elevated by a red floor jack.
The thieves did leave the CD player and CB radio alone, and also left behind a clue: A nearly empty bottle of Jack Daniel's whiskey under the Cherokee.
"It was apparent this bottle was a recent addition to the grassy area, as all other trash, cans, etc. were aged and mud splattered. The bottle was clean and only slightly damp," according to a police report.
Police were able to obtain a few fingerprints from the bottle.
An investigation continues.
