Bengtson hits 16 at national hoop shoot

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Dylan Bengtson, a 9-year old from Dalton Elementary in Coeur d'Alene, made 16 of 25 free throws to finish 12th out of 12 finalists in his age group at the Elks National Hoop Shoot on Saturday morning.

Bengtson, a fourth-grader competing in the boys 8-9 year-old division, was the first representative from North Idaho to advance to nationals since Bryan Klingaman of Rathdrum finished second in 1995.

Henry Westphal of Portland, Maine, won the competition by making 25 of 25 shots.
