Charlie left this life on May 21, 2011, in Phoenix, Ariz. Born March 14, 1950, in Napa, Calif., he attended Napa High School and Chico State University where he earned degrees in Business Administration/Management and Social Work/Corrections. After college, he moved to Sandpoint where he was a preschool teacher and eventually director for North Idaho Head Start, winning state and local recognition. In 1996, he moved to Phoenix where he worked for Head Start as an area supervisor. In 1998, Charlie went on to serve as Director of Operations for the Unity Church of Phoenix for nine years, but his career happily came full circle when he again took a position with Head Start, this time as director of Phoenix's Golden Gate Community Center.
