PF DAYS: Smoke gets in your eyes

| June 10, 2011 10:00 PM

I attended the Post Falls Days festivities in Quemlin Park on Saturday evening and since the event is billed as family friendly brought my daughter with me. We set up some chairs at one of the stages to listen to music, and got a lot more than that.

My daughter complained to me about all the cigarette smoke and I was not enjoying it either. I noticed that they were selling alcohol openly and allowing people who were drinking, some obviously drunk, and many of them chain smoking cigarettes, and these people were allowed to just wander around with their alcohol and cigarettes in amongst families trying to enjoy the evening with their children. I have never been to an event like this where a separate beer tent was not set up to keep the drinking and at least a majority of the smoking separate from families. I can only ask, "what in the heck are the city leaders of Post Falls thinking? Would you please pull your heads out into the open air so your brain can operate properly."

I, for one, will not be attending this event again unless this issue is addressed, and will be seeking a government agency to complain to. It is pure ignorance to believe that someone's right to pollute the air with toxins is equal to or exceeds the rights of others who wish to breathe clean air.
