McEUEN: Fine the way it is

| June 10, 2011 10:00 PM

McEuen Field. No Conflict of interest. No tax money to be spent on it.

I think that first of all we need to ask the very simple question: How many people over the past several years have come to the City Council with a complaint about the park and asking for some changes? We have always enjoyed the park just the way that it is.

I wonder how many people who own businesses within a half mile of McEuen Field will benefit from the proposed improvements. No conflict of interest? Who will benefit from the improvements?

Maybe no tax money will be used directly on this park, but little private money will be spent on it. LCDC will use money that comes from taxpayers so it has to be considered tax money.

I believe that the construction of the improvements suggested will change our city from a sleepy little village where people can just come and enjoy a relaxed life into one that has all the bells and whistles of our modern cities: more traffic; more trash; more noise. And there will be no going back. Many people will come to visit this improved park. Who will benefit from these improvements? Those who own businesses in the downtown area. This will also mean more fire and police protection which will be a further burden on the taxpayers.

If you truly want a downtown area that is like Las Vegas then keep pushing for the improvements outlined. If you really do like the relaxed atmosphere then maybe it is time to replace some of the City Council and be content with what we have.

Ask anyone: Coeur d'Alene is a great town in which to live. Why is it necessary to change it into something none of us really want? Comments: [email protected]
