McEUEN: Decision showed leadership
The decision has been made on the future of McEuen Park - the right one, I believe. Opponents have been adamant and determined, and their concerns were heard. Unfortunately, some have turned spiteful and even vicious.
Time will tell if the decision was the right one and I happen to believe it was. Showing my age, I am reminded of the fight in Spokane over hosting the 1974 World's Fair which created Riverfront Park. The decision to go forward was quite unpopular. However, Spokane's Business Development Manager championed the project and the City Council agreed to move forward. The decision was a courageous one. The council did not put their finger to the wind. They did what was right. Who in Spokane would want to trade Riverfront Park for the run-down rail yard that existed before?
Sometimes leaders must demonstrate leadership. Our council did.
