AARP: No fan of organization
On July 17 your paper published a front page article using the AARP and their scare tactics on us seniors, to make points. I am a senior in my 70s and I know, just as all seniors should know, that any bill on any table does not affect anyone over 55 years old. AARP knows this but uses these tactics to gain more people to join, because, let's face it, they are a big, big business, not really representative of us seniors, or more importantly, the future generations of this nation. Many of the benefits that AARP offers can be had elsewhere, without a fee.
That's my first point. The second is this: The women interviewed in your article were in their 80s, the generation before mine. The so-called greatest generation, who went out of their way to make it better for me and my children. That sacrifice worked for me and mine. I've lived a good life.
Now our country is in big trouble, especially for future generations. It's time for us who have had great lives to step up to the plate and make sacrifices for future generations. Take some cuts for them if need be, and quit crying. That includes the AARP!
If I died tomorrow because of these small cuts made in Medicare or Social Security, I would be happy knowing it was a benefit for my grandkids and great-grandkids to have the life that I enjoyed.
