STODGY: Not by a long shot

| July 27, 2011 11:11 AM

I wouldn't normally correct a letter to the editor, as it is someone's opinion which everyone has a right to. However, I perhaps wasn't clear to the reporter regarding the senior population at the Lake City Senior Center.

The reporter asked the question to me as a member of the Board of Directors, why did we think the usage of the center was occurring? My answer was, "It isn't only the Lake City Senior Center, all senior centers over the nation are in the same downward usage." One of the reasons I gave was "Because, the incoming seniors consider they are not ready to what they believe to be ‘stodgy, older people.'"

I indicated to the reporter that ISN'T what the people utilizing the Senior Centers are...they are dancers, exercisers, painters, knitters, happy pool and excellent card players. Their Friday lunches (open to public) are full of great music. I indicated the center even has a WII player and we were thinking of having WII contests, and that I, using a cane, would probably fall off my cane.

No, these senior citizens are anything but old and stodgy. They are the "smile on our world" ... join them ... IT'S GREAT TIMES AT THE LAKE CITY SENIOR CENTER.

Colleen Allison ... and remember I am one of them... 83 years and looking for more. Join us - I'll challenge you to a tennis game on WII.
