GOP: Grateful they don't rule

| July 24, 2011 10:00 PM

What is it with right wing conservatives, AKA Republicans, that they seem to think the government shouldn't mandate, or at least try, something that's beneficial for the people, i.e. CFL light bulbs?

I suppose if you had it your way, Detroit would still be rolling out gas-guzzling muscle cars like they did in the ‘50s and ‘60s. Oriental rice burners would never have been allowed in the U.S. There would be no mandated MPG on vehicles, even steel-belted radials (which last five times longer than the old bias tires) would not be allowed to be imported, even though Europe had been using them 30 years before us. There would be no restrictions on where big oil, gas and coal could drill or mine. To hell with the poor who can't afford even basic health care or insurance.

You guys have your head up if you think big corporations would do anything on their own to help people, the environment or the quality of life. The BOTTOM LINE is all that counts for them and their multi-million-dollar executives.

Oh, I might mention also that I buy my CFLs through my local power company and they cost less than $1.50, not $6, and they last about five years.
