ART: Let it stay, enlighten
So what's in a piece of art? Just like beauty - it's in the eye of the beholder, right?
Just a bit of looking in a book and I found eight different swastikas. It has been a religious emblem worldwide since at least 10,000 B.C. It was still used as a magic sign in Europe up to the beginning of the 20th century. It was wrongly adopted by Hitler as a pure Aryan sign - goes to show what he knew. Used in India, Japan, Rome - used by American Indian tribes.
Then I read in the paper that poor Ganesha is a swastika symbol and also that the elphant trunk is a symbol of something other than an elephant trunk. OK, so maybe in a filthy mind!
Go figure. Some people just have way too much time on their hands.
I support Deanna Goodlander's position: The art work stays put unless it's sold.
