Ask your audiologist... Dustproof and waterproof aids

"Is there a hearing aid that is dustproof and waterproof? My husband works in construction and he also coaches a swim team and his hearing aids are always malfunctioning due to dust or moisture."

There is a brand new hearing aid made by Siemens called the Aquaris that is both dustproof and waterproof. These aids are brand new and will be available the end of July. These are perfect for people that work in dusty situations such as construction and wood working. They are also perfect for active people who like to hike, swim, boat and bicycle.

If you visit the Internet and do a search of "Siemens Aquaris" you can watch a couple of informative YouTube videos about this great new technology. Besides being a discreet and small behind the ear aid, they also come with a Sport Clip and an AquaPac. The Sport Clip holds the hearing aid(s) securely in place for vigorous activities such as mountain biking. The pouch will keep devices such as an MP3 player safe and dry so one can enjoy listening to music while swimming.

I have many patients that sweat profusely in the summer just doing normal yard work or gardening. Many were resorting to covering their aids with little absorbent boots or socks to try to keep the moisture from damaging their hearing aids. These Aquaris aids will be perfect for them. These Aquaris aids are for mild to moderate hearing loss only they are not powerful enough for severe to profound hearing loss.

If one has hearing aids already and is experiencing moisture related problems I recommend a hearing aid dehumidifier to store them in at night. A dehumidifier can help dry them out and keep them working better longer. There are many different models and range in cost from $7 up to $60.
