LEADERS: Citizens ultimately at fault
The recent column by Sholeh Patrick about the language divide between people who "care" about the environment and those who "don't" hits the target in the center. I don't know anyone who wants to drink dirty water or breathe dirty air. The dilemma is how to take care of the planet in a reasonable manner without letting the elephant break all the china in the store.
Saturday's My Turn column by Mr. Heath is another direct hit on the current political climate we face. Politicians who have been in Washington for decades are the real problem. Let us not forget that Congress, not the president, appropriates every single penny spent by the government. I have personally emailed Senator Crapo three times regarding things that I was concerned about. I have received not one, even "canned" response from his office. You can guess if he gets my vote next time around.
The danger to America is not who is president or who is in Congress, but a citizenry that elects and entrusts those who hold those offices. It would be easier to undo their follies, than to instill common sense and good judgment in its voters!
