CARTOON: Learn truth of church
It was with shock and dismay that I read the cartoon in the July 3 Press which wrongly stated some of the beliefs of the Roman Catholic Church. It reminded me of a quote by the late Bishop Fulton J. Sheen who said, "There are not a hundred people in America who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions of people who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church - which is, of course, quite a different thing."
Considering the many positive articles The Press has published on charitable Catholic works in this area (such as St. Vincent de Paul, local food kitchens and social work at St. Pius X), this cartoon was extremely out of character for The Press and not what I have come to expect. It made me wonder who made the decision to print it.
I gently and kindly suggest that those who truly want to know what the Church believes should do some serious reading. A few suggestions would be:
Rome Sweet Home by Dr. Scott Hahn and his wife Kimberly.
Scott was a militant anti-Catholic who read so much true information about the Church that he felt compelled to convert in 1986 and is now a professor at Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ind.
Catechism of the Catholic Church
Humanae Vitae (Human Life) by Pope Paul VI.
