Ex-Lake City star Baker sidelined by emergency appendectomy

MISSOULA, Mont. - Montana sophomore women's basketball player Katie Baker, the former Lake City High star, drove herself to the hospital around 3 a.m. Monday after suffering stomach pains and underwent an emergency appendectomy.

Baker, who suffered a season-ending knee injury one year ago as a freshman, will be sidelined at least three weeks, though it's possible she could miss the rest of the season.

Baker, a 6-foot post who helped Lake City win a state 5A championship in 2007, is the only Lady Griz averaging in double figures scoring at 11.7 points per game.

Montana is 8-11, 3-3 in the Big Sky Conference. The Lady Griz are scheduled to be in this area March 5 when they close out the regular season in Cheney vs. Eastern Washington.
