St. Vincent de Paul, Cd'A partner on housing project

| January 28, 2011 8:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - The city of Coeur d'Alene is aiming to partner with St. Vincent de Paul to bring more affordable housing to town.

The $2 million 14-unit development would be funded by a Housing and Urban Development grant and subsidize the units for people who suffer from chronic mental illness.

The units would be at 102 and 106 Homestead Ave., off Government Way. The city would purchase them from TESH Inc.

Before the city can apply for the grant, it must rezone the roughly acre parcel of land on which the property sits. The city is applying to change it from R-12 to R-17 with an R-34 special use permit to allow the 14-unit development.

The issue will go before the planning commission at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8 in the Community Room of the Coeur d'Alene Public Library.
