Salesky sparks Spartans past Kellogg

| January 23, 2011 8:00 PM

PRIEST RIVER - Priest River trailed by as many as eight points in the first half before senior Max Salesky scored 13 points in the third quarter to spark a 28-6 Spartan run in Saturday night's 78-70 Intermountain League win over the Kellogg Wildcats.

Salesky started the fourth quarter with three straight 3s and scored 23 of his game-high 30 points in the second half for second-ranked (3A) Priest River (10-4, 2-0 IML).

"Ball movement and my teammates setting great screens is what did it," Salesky said. "I was kind of in the zone but their screens left me with open shots and that's what I practice every day, so I felt obligated to make them."

Garret Wendt scored 10 of his 18 points in the first quarter and Ryan Beggerly added 15 for the Wildcats (10-4, 2-2 IML), who travel to Bonners Ferry on Thursday.

Priest River hosts St. Maries next Saturday.
