Three injured in morning collision

ROSE LAKE - Three people were hospitalized Friday morning after two vehicles collided near eastbound milepost 33 on Interstate 90, according to Idaho State Police.

Kayla A. Edmonson, 23, of Cataldo, and an 11-month-old infant secured by a child restraint were eastbound at 10:59 a.m. when her 1996 Saturn hit the median barrier and went sideways, sliding into the passing lane, police said.

The Saturn was struck by a 1992 Ford Thunderbird driven by 36-year-old Gretchen K. Thomas of Post Falls, police said.

Edmonson was injured and transported to Kootenai Medical Center. She was transferred to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane and was in satisfactory condition Monday night, hospital staff said.

The infant was not injured in the crash.

Thomas and passenger David J. Rodgers of Post Falls were injured and taken to KMC. They were both treated and released.

Edmonson was not wearing a seat belt when the collision occurred, police said.

Foundation seeks scholarship funds

The North Idaho College Foundation is seeking funds to support new scholarships for American Indian students at NIC.

"Of the 139 American Indian students currently enrolled at NIC, only 14 percent receive tribal funding and 42 percent must take out loans in order to stay in school," said NIC Foundation Executive Director Rayelle Anderson. "There is a lot of need."

The American Indian Education Foundation Challenge Grant program has agreed to match funds raised by the NIC Foundation in support of American Indian students through Jan. 31. In order to maximize the matching grant program, donors are encouraged to support the American Indian Student Alliance Scholarship through the NIC Foundation.

A donation may qualify for both a federal and a state income tax deduction and an Idaho income tax credit. Donations can be made by credit card, cash or check or online at www.nic.edu/foundation.
