Vikings win another TerHark Cup

| January 21, 2011 8:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - The Coeur d'Alene High wrestling team won the TerHark Cup for the ninth straight year Thursday night, beating Lake City 59-12 at Lake City.

Coeur d'Alene's performance made Viking coach Jeff Moffat happy because they are showing improvement at the right time of the year.

"This is the direction I want to see my team going as we approach the state tournament." he said.

He also complimented Lake City by calling their team the most improved team in North Idaho.

Nick Wells beat Hudson Staub 1-0 in a hotly contested match at 125, then Staub’s workout partner, Kyle Siegwarth pinned Billy Potts in the night’s fastest pin — 32 seconds at 130.

Lake City coach Corey Owen said he was pleased by how hard his kids battled against the more-experienced Coeur d’Alene wrestlers. Owen said his team is getting better every week and predicted they will turn the corner and become a force to be dealt with.

Lake City travels to Ferris next Wednesday. Coeur d’Alene travels to Post Falls on Thursday.
