Lakeland boys smother Timberlake

BOYS BASKETBALL

RATHDRUM - Eric Cooper scored 17 points to lead the 4A Lakeland Hawks past the 3A Timberlake Tigers 57-32 in a nonleague game at Hawk Court on Wednesday.

"We were able to apply some full-court pressure and create some easy baskets in the first quarter," Lakeland coach Trent Derrick said. "It was one of those games where we got off to a good start and caught Timberlake by surprise. We're happy to get a win tonight."

Hunter Arno had 12 points and eight rebounds for Lakeland (3-12), which hosts Sandpoint in a 4A Inland Empire League game Friday.

Brian Cronnelly scored 16 points for Timberlake (2-12), which travels to St. Maries on Jan. 27.

KELLOGG - The visiting Tigers remained in the hunt for the Intermountain League title with an dual victory over the Wildcats at Andrews Gymnasium.

Tristan Roth (140 pounds), Kyle White (152), Justin Anast (160), Christian Heth (171), Allan Foote (285) and Scott Larson (103) had pins for Timberlake, which travels to Lakeland tonight.

“(Tristan) Roth’s pin was big for us tonight,” Timberlake coach Ryan Montang said. “He’s a young guy that’s been a little inconsistent this year, but was big time for us tonight. We got rolling after that and the pins by (Walker) Herring, (Kyle) White and (Christian) Heth definitely started a snowball effect for us.”

Timberlake improves to 3-1 in the IML, with a dual against St. Maries on Feb. 3.
