Gladys Marlene Taylor, 74

Gladys Marlene Taylor, 74, passed away suddenly at home in Orangevale, Calif., on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011. Her loving husband of 35 years, John F. Taylor was at her side.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Sandi Ryen Kukkola (Gary) of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; Mike Ryen (Beth) of Hayden; Robin Ryen Douglas (Ron) of Ogden, Utah; seven step-children, 28 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Gladys is also survived by siblings Rose Marie Spencer of Fernwood, Harriett Anderson of St. George, Utah, Roger Smalley and Dennis Smalley, both of Athol.

Gladys Marlene Smalley was born in Williston, N.D., on Nov. 24, 1936. She moved to Coeur d'Alene with her mother, Mary Ellen (Jack); father William Robert Smalley; sisters Rose Marie (Spencer), Harriet (Anderson) and brothers Merlyn, DeWayne, Roger and Dennis Smalley in the early 1940s. Gladys attended Winton Elementary School and Coeur d'Alene Junior and Senior High Schools.

She married Chester Ryen in 1954. They later divorced. In 1972, Gladys moved to Orangevale with her three children. There she met her husband John Franklin Taylor.

Gladys was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to hear about her family's involvement in school, hobbies and work. She was a collector of many things from old slot machines to family photos. She loved scrapbooking, learning new tricks on her computers, and maintaining the family tree.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at the Green Valley Mortuary in Folsom, Calif.
