CLACKAMAS, Ore. — The third-ranked North Idaho Cardinal wrestlers got pins from Brock Banta, Jake Mason and Jamelle Jones as they defeated the top-ranked Clackamas Cougars 33-11 on Friday night.

“We came out and wrestled a lot better than last night (Thursday),” NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. “We looked like we’d been off a month, but we looked sharper tonight. They had a huge crowd with being the No. 1 team in the nation.”

Kyle McCrite (125), Braden Mowry (141), Jeremy Bommarito (157) and Justin Korthuis (184) won by decision for NIC, which competes in the Clackamas Open today.

“Kyle, Brock and Braden came out and set the tempo tonight,” Whitcomb said. “They got things rolling and everyone else wrestled well. Anytime you can beat the No. 1 team, you’ve got to take a positive from it.”
