GIVING: Can be contagious here

| January 14, 2011 5:38 AM

A young Americorps volunteer came in last week looking for funds to pay the rental fee for a hall to host a concert in honor of Martin Luther King with the proceeds going to local food banks. The Human Rights Education Institute does not have funds to grant but I went into my own pocket and sent an e-mail out to many people I know to see if they would match my gift.

To my delight, people did respond especially the Inland Northwest Latin Chamber of Commerce (INWLCC). Individually and as an organization they came up with the funds and then some. Nothing could make me feel better than when good people come together to help others. Through all the violence, a ray of light.

Although I will be away for the concert, I am sure for those who attend it will be very special music. Tonight from 6 to 8 at the Candlelight Christian Fellowship featuring the Canyon River Band.
