McEUEN: Launch needed for access

| January 12, 2011 9:00 PM

As a local resident and avid boater, I am surprised the city would even consider taking away our valuable Third Street boat launch. Access to the lake is already so limited; the Blackwell Island launch is only accessible when the Spokane River is at usable levels and the Higgins Point launch does not compare in quality, security or accessibility.

If boaters were to lose access to the Third Street launch, our remaining launches would be overwhelmed to say the least. And for what? So tourists staying at The Resort can have a nicer view and skating rink? This proposed plan is not fair to the local residents who pay the taxes and deserve priority access to the lake. The park planners really need to listen to the public they serve and take into account our voices. They would truly be doing a disservice to Coeur d'Alene families and generations to come should the boat launch be removed.
