| January 10, 2011 11:53 AM

Passed away Jan. 5, 2011. Lorraine was born April 23, 1920, in Seattle, Wash., to William and Clara Nachtwey along with her twin, Elaine. The family returned to Spokane.

Lorraine attended St. Patrick's Grade School and graduated from Mary Cliff High School. As a child she worked in the family grocery store in Hillyard and later at their dance hall at Woodland Beach resort on Hauser Lake. She sang in the choir at St. George's Catholic Church in Post Falls where she met Don Kamps whom she married in 1940. They opened a restaurant in Post Falls until WWII when Don joined the Army Air Force. While he was gone she worked at Kaiser Trentwood. When Don returned they built a Chevron service station on their property in Post Falls, later adding a motel and two apartment buildings. Besides being a full partner in the business, she was active in the Catholic Ladies League, Lady Lions and volunteered extensively for her children's grade-school classes.

Lorraine was a wonderful wife, mother and friend. She was bright and funny. She had a passion for current events and a flair for fashion and decorating. She had a deep sense of compassion for the suffering of others. She lived well.

She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Don; her sisters, Elaine Sutton and Dody Minkler.

She is survived by her children, Donna Wilson of Spokane, Tom Kamps of Millwood, Joe (Julie) Kamps of Post Falls; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Fairview Assisted Living and Horizon Hospice.
