Joseph A. Deeds, 77

Joseph A. Deeds, 77, passed away in Coeur d'Alene on Jan. 2, 2011.

Joseph was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 15, 1933, to James and Clara (Bir) Deeds. As a young man he had a passion for music, especially jazz. He played the drums until carpal tunnel made it difficult for him to continue.

He was a business owner who sold used cars in New York, Ohio, Illinois and Florida, before eventually falling in love with Idaho and retiring there.

Joseph loved the outdoors. He enjoyed playing tennis, biking, hiking, backpacking, skiing, camping, cross-country skiing, snow shoe hiking and ping-pong. He was a very giving man, who volunteered his time to the Salvation Army, as well as for the Department of Parks and Recreation maintaining trails. Recently he donated to the Transitions program and was planning on becoming a volunteer in the new year.

He is survived by his four children: Tony Deeds of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; Suzanne Deeds of Cincinnati, Ohio; Erin Deeds of Cincinnati and Christina Boss (Deeds) of Ft. Lauderdale; five grandchildren: Andrew, Megan, Eric, Gabrielle and Marcus; his brother: John Deeds of Cincinnati; his sister: Ruth Winders of Raleigh, N.C.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. Fourth St., Coeur d'Alene. English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d'Alene, has been entrusted to handle the arrangements.
