Business cancels use permit hearing

Edgewood Log Structures has canceled its hearing with the Kootenai County examiner over a conditional use permit, previously scheduled for Thursday evening.

Brian Schafer, owner of the Athol log home construction company, could not be reached for comment.

E Squared Planning is no longer representing Schafer, and staff there didn't know why the hearing was pulled.

The county issued an order of decision in early December 2009 for Edgewood to cease its wood chipping and pulping operations, after the commissioners determined at a compliance hearing that those services weren't included in the company's Conditional Use Permit.

Schafer filed a suit against the county soon after, then agreed to set legal action aside to pursue a new permit.
