Grace was taken by her angels to be with her Heavenly Father on Jan. 2, 2011.

She was born in Spokane, Wash., to Carl and Elsie Schwiger on June 26, 1922, and had one sister named Mary. They grew up in Rose Lake. She married Francis Tanner on Nov. 20, 1939, and moved to Dalton Gardens in 1952 where she was devotedly involved with scouting, Camp Fire and Dalton School PTA. She also spent many years as a cook in various logging camps.

Francis died in December 1972.

She moved to Bonners Ferry and later married Bud (Lester) Day. They were together for 31 years until his death in 2006.

Grace worked at the Bonners Ferry Senior Center as a nutritionist for several years.

Her greatest joy in life was her family and friends. She enjoyed camping, baking and having HUGE family dinners. She loved music (Elvis), ducks and Tweety Bird.

She was preceded in death by her son, Terry.

She is survived by her sons, Clyde Tanner (Arlis), Roger Tanner (Kathy); daughter Maryann Dinning; 15 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at the First Baptist Church, 6711 El Paso St., Bonners Ferry.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Bonners Ferry.
