Ice issues halt WHL showdown

| January 1, 2011 8:00 PM

KENNEWICK - Due to ice issues at the Toyota Center in Kennewick, Saturday's game between the Spokane Chiefs and Tri-City Americans was called off three minutes into the second period.

Kruise Reddick opened the scoring for Tri-City on an unassisted goal just 46 seconds into the contest. Brady Brassart scored his fourth goal of the season for Spokane to tie the score at 1-1 after the first period.

The game was called due to a hole in the ice in the front of the Tri-City bench that went to the concrete floor. Officials attempted to patch the hole, but after a 45-minute delay, both teams opted to postpone the game for the safety of the players.

The teams will meet with league officials later today to discuss a makeup date, to be announced later this week.

Spokane (21-10-3-2, 47 points) travels to Kelowna, British Columbia tonight at 7 p.m.
