McEUEN: Save field of dreams
As a fellow American Legion player and a lifetime resident, I am very disappointed in the approach the city has taken with McEuen Field. I know the City Council wants to try and make the city "more appealing" but Coeur d'Alene already holds the reputation as one of the most beautiful cities in the United States.
McEuen field in my opinion is Coeur d'Alene at its best. McEuen Field provides a look at what Coeur d'Alene used to be, a small Idaho town that cares about its citizens before its tourists. It provides the cities' youth with the opportunity to play a great game in a historical atmosphere, and provides its adults with a reminder of how great it was to be a kid.
For those of you who do not support McEuen Field, I ask you to go to one game this summer, get a hot dog and soda and take in what the atmosphere has to offer. I for one see great arguments on both sides of the issue though admittedly am a little biased because of my background. If McEuen must be transformed into a park then so be it; at least provide the Legion players with a field that they deserve.
