Shirley Fuson, 80

| February 21, 2011 7:07 PM

Shirley Fuson passed away on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Nov. 17, 1930.

Shirley loved Hawaii and she had many memories of her childhood there. She would tell us stories of swimming in the ocean with her brother Donald, of nickel movies on Saturday mornings, of going to see Joe Dimaggio and Stan Musial play at a Yankees game with her dad, and watching the Japanese planes fly overhead just before they bombed Pearl Harbor as she sat in a tree she had climbed.

Shirley moved to New Mexico in 1948 where she graduated from Tularosa High School and met her husband Eugene Fuson. The couple married in 1952 and settled in Post Falls where they raised their five children and worked for the Post Falls School District.

Shirley dedicated herself to her family and the Catholic Church. She enjoyed taking walks and spending time with her friends at the Catholic Church Wednesday Quilters and the North Idaho Classic Car Club.

Shirley is survived by her children, John (Christie) Fuson, Cathy (Marshall) Meeks, Sandy Diteman, Cheryl (Dave) Kosanke, Michelle (Brian) Fuson; 12 grandchildren, Brandi, Nick and Marcy Meeks, Ashley (Rook) and Jessie Diteman, Jake and Josh Kosanke, William, Sean, Kyle and David Fuson, and Abbie Dulin; three great-grandchildren; her sisters, Florence and Bobbie and her brothers, Johnnie and Donald.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Fuson; her sister, Lizzie and her brother, Teddy.

Shirley was a sweet lady who never spoke ill of anyone and always dedicated her life to others. Shirley will be missed by all.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at St. George's Catholic Church, 2010 N. Lucas St., Post Falls.
