Maude Ellen Thompson, 99 1/2

At the age of 99 1/2, Maude Ellen Thompson passed into God's loving arms at Fairfax Hospital, Va., on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011.

Survivors include her three children, Margaret (William) FitzHarris, Robert (Yo) Thompson and Russell (Tiffany) Thompson; 12 grandchildren, Catherine, Jennifer, Blythe, Jeff, Stephanie, Erin, Margaret, Cathy, Mark, Joanie, Kim, and Roxanne; 12 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Maude was an active member of the Virginian community, giving selflessly to her friends, fellow residents and staff. Each day she greeted the world with her wonderful smile and lively spirit. Her laughter and kindness drew many to her and she was loved and cherished by a multitude of friends and loved ones, past and present.

She was an amazing gardener with a "green thumb" that brought life to all plants and flowers. Her roses were a source of pride and were so beautiful it is impossible to describe them. Family and friends often gathered in her kitchen to enjoy the many wonderful meals she affectionately prepared. Her fried chicken, bread and candy are the cornerstones of many memories and family traditions.

Maude was a very special person and will be missed by the many people she touched throughout her life. She is a treasure we will hold close to our hearts and souls. Rest in peace, Mom, Granny, Granny Maude, we love you!
