McEUEN: Spend it on education
Times are tough. Money is short. Schools want more and taxpayers want to keep what they have.
We don't need a Sandi Bloem Park that would use "no general fund tax dollars" ... "nor would a bond be proposed. Tucked away urban renewal dollars, grants and other avenues would be the option." (Coeur d'Alene Press. Feb. 11, p2 )
And further down, "there is no intention from the council to raise your taxes, your property taxes." Well, just where does she think these slush funds came from if not taxes of one form or another. We've already wasted 1/3 of a million dollars having an outsider tell us what we want or need. That's about 3 percent of the school levy.
I suggest we scrap the LCDC and all the rest of the "circumvent the public" pigeon hole slush funds and put those taxpayer dollars into the education fund. Then we won't need a school bond for years to come... or do parks come ahead of education?
