IDEA: Legislate online, Idaho
The budget is forcing big changes in all state departments. I propose that to eliminate unnecessary spending and to save money, the entire legislative session should be conducted online. The state could save money on travel costs of the legislators, electricity/heating/cooling costs for the Capitol Building, as well as security and other costs necessary to keep the buildings open and operating.
Legislators could conduct all business though online teleconference sessions, using free software such as Skype, from the comfort of their own home. All voting could be done through official state e-mail so a record of the votes is kept.
The amount of money saved could be put into other funds that are in dire need of help, like the education fund for example.
