EGYPT: Bad, but might get worse

| February 11, 2011 9:00 PM

Anderson Cooper and other American journalists are attacked in Cairo. What a surprise! Could it be that the people in Egypt are unaware of the even-handed, just-the-facts reporting style of American mainstream media?

Could it be that someone figured out that American journalists come with a history of taking sides, slanting their reporting and on occasion outright fabrication? On one level it gave me and many others a degree of enjoyment to see members of our 4th estate suffer.

Another surprise: the president of Egypt is a dictator. Let me try and count the number of countries in the Middle East with free elections. Israel is one and the others are...?

And the surprises keep on coming. Egypt is one of the few countries at peace with Israel after four brutal wars. Egypt has been at peace for decades now. We all seemed to be quite happy with this peace all these years.

The best surprise is the last one: the Muslim Brotherhood is the father of Hamas, Hezbollah, Fatah and the PLO, and nearly every terrorist group in the Muslim world. There is no such thing as a non-violent Muslim Brotherhood and its creed is world-wide Muslim rule under Sharia Law. It will be such a surprise to learn of its implacable hatred of western civilization.

The Muslim Theocracy that replaced the Shah of Iran and its implementation of Sharia rule was such a surprise. Iran rushes to go nuclear and has promised to nuke Israel. If Egypt goes radical Islam, it means that Israeli fighter bombers sitting runway alert with their nukes will move some aircraft to the southern borders. None of this bodes well. Maybe a strong secular leader (dictator) has not been so bad.
