BULLYING: Here is how to end it
It's anyone's guess as to how much bullying is really going on but the data we hear in the media is likely low in the estimations. Why do we put up with it in our schools and neighborhoods? Are we all to become victims in that this increasing scourge will affect our whole society?
As a high school principal I was very proactive. It became known throughout the student body that there was absolute zero tolerance for bullying of any kind. When two high school boys threw a little boy into a dumpster, they were given a whipping, one they would never forget.
This kind of response must be returned to our schools. I know some disagree but it works. And I should add, I was always closer to the students I had to discipline afterward than I ever was before. They grew to love and respect me and still do to this day. Why? Because I loved them enough to do whatever it took. (But, you know, even if they didn't, I'd rather have a bully hate me than have a suicide on my conscience!)
