LEVY: Science proves support

A big "thank you" to all the Ramsey Magnet School of Science 1st - 5th grade teachers who facilitated a science fair project in their classroom this January. Each teacher walked all of their students through the process of completing an inquiry-based project. In our son's 2nd grade classroom, the students' question was "will soap and water or hand sanitizer kill the most germs?" The students hypothesized that "soap and water would kill the most germs" and then designed an experiment to test this hypothesis.

When we picked up our child at the end of each day, he would get in the car eager to share their observations, the results of their experiments and the conclusions that they were able to draw at the end.

As I viewed all the Ramsey classroom science fair projects, I was impressed with the high quality of each one. Ramsey's goal was that all children were familiar with the process of conducting a science fair project so that the students are comfortable enough to do their own for the March individual science fair. Our son is certainly excited to try this on his own!

We feel fortunate to live in a school district that offers choices for our children. We choose to attend Ramsey because of the science opportunities offered throughout the year. We hope that by passing the levy on March 8th, the Coeur d'Alene School District can continue to provide schools of choice to meet the needs of the diverse student populations they serve.
