SKATEPARK: Wheels rolling in support
This letter is on behalf of the "Coeur d'Alene Skatepark Committee." As a group of skateboarders and BMX riders, we have formed for the greater cause to show the community that we are taking action to get a new professionally built skatepark.
Coeur d'Alene is a destination town with a lot of opportunities to make progress in positive ways. There are facilities and fields for almost every recreational hobby. A professionally built skatepark located where it is on the plan would benefit the youth and be a positive attribute to the community. If you look to our neighboring cities and states, they have incorporated skateparks in their parks system and are well used. These skateparks are usually well lit, with bathrooms cameras and are used seven days a week when the weather permits.
The last meeting I attended was at North Idaho College and there were not enough surveys to go around for all. I could not express my opinion except the post-it notes on the wall and online later. I think if the steering committee wants more feedback they could also ask the youth in middle school and high school and the college folks. This field is to accommodate the whole community and visitors from abroad. It is here, so you bring your family and friends to laugh and enjoy the great Northwest seasons and outdoors. I personally like where the new skatepark is to be located, right in front of City Hall and the library with a parking lot!
I believe Coeur d'Alene has been heading in the right direction with this plan. Their parks and recreation department does a fantastic job that makes this town stand out.
