VETERAN: Not alone in passion
To the veteran who has regrets (Jan. 30): Hang in there my friend, you are surely not alone.
I've told my wife that she could have me committed or call BIG BROTHER FED to come and take me away at any moment she wants, just by recording some of the things I say (jokingly). Example, I've said to her while on the road around red light running, insane drivers, "Where is my gun when I need it?" The fact is I'm too soft hearted to hunt, I cried all the way home when I shot my first rabbit and my wife gets upset when I carry spiders outside instead of killing them. Oops! I used the word "killing." Believe me Mr. Hasslinger it has nothing to do with Arizona.
Mr. Randolph, I am 60-plus years old as well and completely understand your frustration when it comes to most elected officials, let alone the McEuen Field issue yet I live in Post Falls. When you hear your mayor say flatly in the Coeur d'Alene Press (paraphrased) that there will be no public vote on the McEuen Field decision because one had already been taken when the public voted the members of the City Council into office to do their voting for them; who would not get frustrated hearing such a seemingly dictatorial statement and I for one had flashback thoughts of how the Health Care Bill was jammed through when right or wrong, most of those who had voted them into office "to do their voting for them," did not want it passed and the "elected" knew it.
Mr. Randolph, I admire your passion. Please don't let the hasslingers (small "h") get you down or change you. Frankly our president could use some passion. Oops! Now I'm a racist because I criticized the president, although my black brother in Christ, Agwa, from Ethiopia will tell you otherwise.
Mr. Randolph, I've said all this to say there are those in this world who are intellectuals, those who are very educated, those who are very smart and when you think about it, there is a difference in all three. I have known those who have had one or all of those attributes and yet they lacked WISDOM, because they didn't have the ability to listen, to hear, to feel, to relate. When I was about 13 years old I met an old black man who was a care taker of some property. We used to go out in his old 41 Chevy Coup collecting scrap metal to sell. He was not very well educated, and was not an intellectual, but he was smart and most importantly, he was full of WISDOM. He is of course passed on now, but to illustrate how important WISDOM is, let me put it this way, I respect him more as a person than I do our intellectual, well educated president.
In the council of MANY minds (all the people) is much WISDOM. So, Coeur d'Alene City Council, do you few, feel you know better than the many?
JERRY MARTIN
