BUDGET: You get what you pay for
In Friday's issue of The Press on the front page is an article Idaho's budget deficit grows. Our elected officials in Boise are working hard on that. BUT in Thursday's paper was an item on how there is a bill coming up to reduce wages for certain bid contracts.
Now if we hire workers at a lower rate, doesn't that mean they will pay lower state income tax, which will mean less money going into state budget funds? If down the road Idaho business owners reduce income on workers I see Idaho going the way of some of the low wage paying states of the South. Do we want that? lf so normally you get what you hire, think about that.
If you hire off the streets untrained workers, you get what you paid for. Might want to think about that before you pass this anti-union bill. I worked in Idaho for more than 40 years for a company that had a union. At one time we even took a large pay cut to help the employer in hard times.
