RENT: Don't hold back community
Coeur d'Alene has no chance for progression if there are a group of people protesting a piece of artwork due to an "endorsement" of gay rights. Occupy Wall Street is full of protesters and do you know why? Because a large group of people have realized that something needs to change and that the mass population of this country is being harmed, financially and ethically. Occupy Wall Street protesters are fighting for the whole of the population.
So I ask these protesters of "RENT," who or what is this play hurting besides thousands of years of beliefs that have caused persecution and wars? Isn't the point of Christianity to be like Christ? A man who believed in kindness and acceptance of everyone, not just people who were like you? Gay, straight, white, black, Christian, atheist, all different sorts of people coming together to learn about a different culture, being inspired to look past petty differences that have nothing to do with character. A lesson that more than just "anti-gay" protesters would benefit from learning.
So I ask these protesters, who is your protest helping besides people exactly like you? What cause is this protest standing for, besides your own? All I see is a group of people protesting against a piece of culture and art that is meant to bring humanity together and endorse the differences that make us who we are. To say that this protest is holding back our town from progression is a gross understatement.
