You are your greatest gift

| December 25, 2011 8:00 PM

Count your blessings.

If the bitterness of hard times blinds you, let us help you count.

The fact that you're reading this is proof that you can still feed your mind, which emotionally and spiritually is at least as important as physical sustenance. Productivity starts with a sharp mind and ends with the glow of accomplishment, of fulfillment, of being able to help yourself and others.

We maintain that the root of all disappointment is expectation. That's different from setting goals and striving to meet them. Expecting to make as much money as your neighbor, to enjoy physical strength or beauty like people you see on TV or in the gym, even to be recognized and validated for the many good things you do, these expectations lead to disappointment, which is the gateway to sorrow.

Be the best person you can be.

Don't compare or judge yourself so harshly.

Find the joy in every task; it's there if you don't let bitterness or expectation blind you.

Get outside yourself and focus on others. Doing something good for someone else with no expectation of reward enriches the recipient and the giver both; the giver most.

Count your blessings.

And please, have a very merry Christmas.
