RENT: Don't like it, then don't go
I don't know if this will get posted online or not, and people are probably sick of hearing about it. But as an actor who frequents plays out at Lake City Playhouse, I must say that it is very disheartening to hear so many people speak with such hate about "RENT." Why hate? Why submit so many people to the anger you feel within yourself?
You might say "because it is morally unacceptable to me" or "that type of lifestyle is not something I agree with" and you know what? Those are completely valid statements! Nobody said you had to like it, and no one is forcing you to like it. If George Green were strapping you to the seats and taping your eyes open then yes, even I would fight the show tooth and nail! But the truth of the matter is, no one is forcing you to be a part of this show. If it makes you uncomfortable, then don't come. But stop pretending that this show is a sin against god and nature, or that it is your personal duty to see that this show doesn't happen.
The motto of every actor everywhere is "The show must go on," which means no matter how many people picket the show, no matter how many calls or emails George Green gets, this show is going to happen! So turn on a Bing Crosby movie and leave well enough alone.
